Security for FTP Connections

By default, FTP transfers the data unencrypted. A potential attacker can easily get access to your data and password.

We therefore recommend that you use FTP over SSL (FTPS) in explicit mode. The settings for this can be found in your FTP client.


In the FTP client Filezilla, you can view the settings in the server manager, for example:

Do not mix up FTPS and SFTP.
SFTP has nothing to do with FTP, SFTP is provided by the SSH server. In order to use SFTP, an SSH access is necessary, which may not be provided to you by the administrator.
